WordPress is famous for its blogging capabilities but what some people fail to know is that WordPress is a content management system (CMS) used for web design and development.  WordPress has been around since 2003 and has become the most popular CMS used.  On February  2011, it was reported that WordPress was downloaded 32.5 millions times and in August 2011, 22% of new websites are built on WordPress.

So what are some cool features of WordPress?  There are plenty but the ones to absolutely know are:

  1. Themes – allow users to change the layout and functionality of a WordPress website or installation without changing the website’s content.
  2. Plugins – allows users to enhance and maximize the website’s functionality.
  3. Widgets – allows users to drag and drop content and added functionality to the sidebar.
  4. Multi-users – allows multiple people to become users of shared blogs
